⚡ 3 Tips to Speed Up Your Figma Workflow · The Bunker #80
Today I'm sharing my best 3 tips to work superfast in Figma.
Hi friend 👋🏻!
Welcome to The Bunker.
A Newsletter in which we talk about UX Design and the Freelance Journey, dedicated to those who are starting out in both worlds and who feel identified.
From The Bunker, we accompany you on the way.
I may not be the best designer in the world, but I've been told many times 'how fast you are' or as we say in Spain 'vas a toda ostia,' it's probably the phrase I've heard the most, hahaha...
I've always liked to go fast with software; I think it's because I like them to go as fast as my mind.
If I see that my mind is faster than my hands, I get frustrated.
That's why it's not surprising that I took typing seriously, reaching 140WPM, which is my current record.
Right now, I'm writing this newsletter at the same speed I think the words.
Well, it's a bit the same in Figma and Webflow, I'm obsessed with shortcuts, I don't like to waste time on the superficial.
But it's not just shortcuts, also certain things that help me speed up my processes, like setting the nudge amount to 8 instead of 10.
Relax, I'll tell you now.
Shift + Number up
The most recommended thing in Figma is always to use multiples of 8.
We normally recommend to work within the 8pts grid. More about this here.
Automatically, when you use Shift and increase values, Figma increases them by 10 each time. However, if you change the nudge amount to 8px, you can increase those values by 8 each time.
So, when you have a random number like 347 and you're not sure if it's a multiple of 8 or not, what I do is click Shift and move the mouse slightly.
If the initial number is already a multiple of 8px, it won't do anything; if it's not, it will approach the nearest multiple of 8.
I'll leave you a video so you can understand what I mean.
Alt/Option + V/H
This is probably one of the shortcuts I use the most:
Alt/Option + V, center horizontally.
Alt/Option + H, center vertically.
Alt/Otion + A, align left.
Alt/Option + D, align right.
I never go to the top right panel and click align, never! I can align items in 1 sec.
Pixelated Images when exporting
Figma automatically optimizes images when you import them into the program. This results in entire websites looking like this when you want to export them:
So, a little trick that helps me export and import images at maximum quality is by exporting the web as a .pdf and then using this website to convert from .pdf to .jpg and then importing it into Figma
Bonus: Fonts issues
Perhaps one of the most common comments I receive from my clients is 'the fonts don't work for me.' Well, here's the solution so they won't bother you anymore.
Always recommend them to use Figma on desktop (please).
Go to profile, and have them download this.
And that’s for today!

Didn't know about some of these Figma shortcuts. Thanks for sharing! I'm a big fan of ⌘/CTRL + P to bring up the action menu. Similar to ⌘ + K in Webflow.
