🚀 The difference between successful people and you · The Bunker #122
How to start a succesful project, perfect ideas and failure...
Everyone has good ideas.
The difference between those who succeed and those who don’t is simple: execution.
💡 The perfect idea
How many times have you thought of something brilliant but never acted on it?
Or dismissed an idea because you thought it wasn’t good enough, only to later see someone else succeed with something similar?
Most people get stuck in the loop of overthinking. (I used too 😅).
They wait for the "perfect" moment, the right conditions, or more knowledge before starting.
And that moment never comes.
Perfection is just an excuse to delay action. Our brain is wired to protect us from potential failure, and one of its defense mechanisms is coming up with excuses.
Fear of judgment
Fear of wasting time
Fear of not being good enough can all manifest as a desire for perfection.
In reality, these fears are just illusions that prevent us from moving forward.
The truth is, every successful person you admire today started with something that wasn’t perfect.
Take Ali Abdaal, for example. He began with a cheap camera and videos that weren’t even in HD, but he kept improving along the way.
They simply refined their process step by step.
🚀 Ideas don’t matter without execution
A good idea without execution is worthless.
Meanwhile, an average idea that is executed well can turn into something amazing.
Take Koala UI for example.
It wasn’t the first design system in the market. But it was executed strategically, with a strong focus on usability, marketing, and positioning. That’s why people found value in it and bought it.
It didn’t start as the most complete design system either.
At first, it had many shortcomings and competed with much more advanced systems on the market.
However, after 12 months of constant iteration, listening to user feedback, and improving every detail, it became a solid, versatile, and highly sought-after product in the design community.
Or look at Branding Website.
The idea of curating and showcasing great branding projects isn’t groundbreaking.
But by taking action, refining execution, and making it a valuable resource for branding enthusiasts, it turned into a solid platform with real impact.
I’ve had countless ideas that I thought weren’t great, and I almost didn’t act on them.
Some I abandoned, only to see someone else execute them successfully later.
Others, I took a chance on, and they became some of the most successful projects I’ve ever launched.
And they completely changed my life. All because I dared to try.
A winner is just a loser who never gave up.
⚡ Why acting fast gives you an advantage
The projects I have launched and that have worked weren’t due to anything other than the fact that I simply tried.
Execution gives you an edge because it moves you forward while others are still thinking.
The faster you execute, the quicker you get feedback. The faster you iterate.
This allows you to improve based on real data, rather than guessing what might work.
Waiting for the perfect idea often means someone else will execute it before you do.
And even if they don’t, hesitation kills momentum. Every day you wait, your enthusiasm and energy fade, making it even harder to start.
Now, let’s talk about imposter syndrome. Sometimes you don’t execute an idea because you think, "Who am I to do this?" But then you see someone else—who isn’t particularly special either—try and succeed.
And that’s when you realize the only difference between those who succeed and those who don’t is that they took the first step. They weren’t more talented or better prepared; they simply acted while others kept doubting.
🔥 How you can radically change your life
Stop waiting for the perfect idea. Pick one and commit. No idea is perfect at the start.
Break it into small steps. Focus on getting an MVP (minimum viable product) out. Small progress is better than no progress.
Test and iterate. Get real-world feedback and improve as you go. Don’t expect to get it right on the first try.
Build momentum. The more you act, the easier it gets to keep going. Action breeds clarity and confidence.
Track your progress. Seeing small wins will keep you motivated and help you stay on track.
Surround yourself with doers. The people around you influence your mindset. Stay close to those who take action.
Talk to people. If you don't see progress, others will see it for you. Sometimes we are so focused on what we haven't achieved yet that we fail to acknowledge how far we've come.
It helps me a lot when people say, "Wow, you’ve done so much," because I always feel like I haven’t done enough. We underestimate our progress because we compare ourselves to an ideal rather than measuring our actual growth. But others can see what we might overlook.
Keeping a progress journal or discussing milestones with trusted people can provide a clearer perspective and reinforce the motivation to keep going.
The internet is filled with people who had the same idea as you but never did anything with it.
There are thousands of unfinished projects, abandoned ideas, and regrets.
Don’t be one of them.
Act now.
The best ideas are not the ones you think of. They are the ones you bring to life.
Until next time,
Jordi Espinosa.
